I read and moderately enjoyed Julianne Donaldson’s debut novel Edenbrooke, but when I read her second book Blackmoore, I was blown away. This was one of the most satisfying Regency romances I have ever read. The characters, especially the first person narrator heroine, Kate Worthington, were portrayed with depth and understanding. I loved the spiraling flashbacks that gradually unfolded Kate’s motivations. Why does she want to travel to India? Why does she insist on never marrying? Why does she persist in rejecting Henry when he is the perfect man for her? The emotional tension in this book was pitch perfect.
